Many experts believe that running barefoot on sand can lead to foot injury. It can be true but there are many benefits of walking and running barefoot on sand. When you take a step on dry sand and your foot sinks a bit trying to balance, that's your muscle at work! That energy is used to strengthen all the lower extremity muscles. We walk on flat hard surface and wearing the same shoe kind of limits our range of motion- the body position, motion and equilibrium. If your feet are confined to closed constricting shoes all day, then letting your feet move and stretch out naturally is a great way to give yourself some relief. So, try it out by walking and running in loose sand. It will work for the rest of your body, too.
